Pad-Friendly Boxer Briefs: What It Actually Means
Pad-friendly is a phrase a lot of brands use loosely. Here is exactly what we mean by it, and what we don't.
What pad-friendly means at Blu
Every pair of our boxer briefs has a gusset made from two layers of organic cotton. It is shaped so that a pad sticks to it properly and stays where you put it — no bunching, no sliding sideways over the course of a day.
The wings tuck under the gusset instead of wrapping around the outside of the leg. That is the part most underwear gets wrong: on a standard brief the wings either don't reach or they fold back on themselves. Here they disappear underneath, so nothing prints through your clothes and nothing rubs.
What pad-friendly is not
These are not period underwear. The fabric is not absorbent and it is not designed to be worn alone during your period. Period underwear replaces a pad. Ours holds one.
We are specific about this because the two get bundled together constantly, and the difference matters if you are deciding what to buy. If you want something that absorbs, buy period underwear. If you already use pads and want boxer briefs that actually work with them, that is what we make.
There is a practical upside to the distinction: because the fabric isn't absorbent, these are just normal boxer briefs the rest of the month. Most people who buy them end up wearing them every day, not only on period days.
Which length to choose
All three lengths have the same gusset and the same waistband. The difference is how much leg they cover.
- 5cm — our shortest cut. Sits close to the body, disappears under fitted trousers.
- 7cm — the middle length. The most popular one, and a good default if you're unsure.
- 11cm — full thigh coverage. Choose this one if your thighs rub, or if you want something under dresses and skirts.
Between two sizes? Go up. Comfort should win. Full size guide here.

Common questions
Will the pad still move around?
The gusset is shaped to hold it, but no pair can promise a pad never shifts. What it does is stop the sliding and bunching you get when a pad is stuck to a curved, single-layer gusset.
Can I wear these on days I'm not on my period?
Yes — most people do. Nothing about them reads as period underwear.
Do they work with a menstrual cup or a tampon?
Yes, they're ordinary cotton boxer briefs. The gusset just gives you the option of a pad.
Who are these designed for?
Women, trans and non-binary people who don't feel represented by typical men's boxer briefs. Anyone else who wants a pair is welcome.
